Higher education - University of Miskolc

All-in-all, one of the most established higher education institutions in the region is the University of Miskolc. In addition, the technical faculties of the institution boast an internationally recognized teaching staff and students who achieve outstanding academic, and research results every year.

The University looks back on a long tradition in terms of both education and university student life. The legal predecessor of the institution was founded in 1735 in Banská Štiavnica in present-day Slovakia, and after several stations and locations, it was finally moved to Miskolc, the then already known and recognized Universitas throughout Europe. The technical, earth science and materials science courses are recognized worldwide, providing an excellent breeding ground for manufacturing companies based in the city. Recognizing this, the city, the university, and major local employers have worked together to create a number of dual training programs at secondary and tertiary levels. The program is attended by renowned local economic actors such as Bosch, Joyson, Hell, Wanhua, who, in cooperation with the University, can prepare their future employees by shaping them according to their own goals and image.

The Faculty of Engineering Materials Science has a particularly outstanding scientific research and development activity, with several patents behind them and in collaboration with renowned organizations such as the European Space Agency or NASA. In recent years, in response to human resource needs created by the region’s rapidly evolving industries such as the chemical and automotive industries, the University has launched chemical and automotive engineering courses that equip professionals with specialized and targeted knowledge. In addition to technical faculties, the Faculty of Health with economics, law and special health care specializations, is also traditionally strong. Specialists from these faculties contribute to the success of economic actors in the city and the region from the business-administrative side. It is also worth mentioning that the Confucius Institute operates within the walls of the University, which, as the Chinese Educational and Cultural Center of Northeast Hungary, organizes events and internship programs in addition to Chinese language and cultural training. In addition to higher education, in recent years Miskolc and its partners have also successfully developed primary and secondary education institutions.

Secondary Vocational Training

Secondary vocational education also has excellent conditions in the city. With its 11 member institutions, the Miskolc Vocational Training Center provides high-quality vocational education based on local economic needs in Miskolc. The training offer of the Center is very diverse; in addition to technical training, in addition to vocational training in the business and management and beauty and social sectors, all the way to tourism, it provides training for children and adults alike.

Adult education

The main activity of the Miskolc Adult Training Center is adult training, through which its primary target group is employees working in the companies of Miskolc Holding Zrt., for whom it implements various training programs. In addition to the programs offering vocational qualifications registered in the National Qualification Register, it also deals with the implementation of competence-based and language trainings, keeping in mind the professional needs of the ordering company. In addition, it also meets the adult training needs of multinational companies in the region, working together from the assessment of training needs to the development and implementation of training programs. It is currently associated with several multinational companies, either on a case-by-case basis or in the form of a framework contract.

Primary International Education

Avalon International School opened its doors in September 2019 as the first foundation private school and kindergarten in Miskolc and the region, based on the Cambridge system. It provides a high-quality educational opportunity for the 3-15 age group on about 5,000 square meters. The building and equipment of AIS maximally reflects the values represented by the school and meets the aesthetic and technical expectations of the 21st century, whether it is online, digitally usable educational interfaces and applications.

One of the representatives of primary, international education is the Bosch German School in Miskolc, which accepts applications from children of Bosch companies in Miskolc and Starters E-Components Generators Automotive Hungary Kft, and from other children who are of mandatory school age and native or near-native German speakers.
